Blu Tuesday DVD and Bluray Release Report Sept 14th, 2010

The retail shelves are looking a little more appealing as some of the Summer hits are finally filtering onto dvd and Blu formats for you to collect and view at home.

Let’s take a look at some of the releases coming out this week:

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time –

target="_blank">Check out our Review

A rogue prince (Jake Gyllenhaal) reluctantly joins forces with a mysterious princess (Gemma Arterton) and together, they race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time—a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

I had a lot of fun with this film, and while it wasn’t perfect it is a fun ride. I will be buying this one.

Just Wright

Leslie Wright (Queen Latifah) is a straight-shooting physical therapist who gets the gig of a lifetime working with NBA All-Star Scott McKnight (Common). All is going well until Leslie finds herself falling for Scott, forcing her to choose between the gig of a lifetime and the tug-of-war inside her heart. Oblivious to her romantic overtures, McKnight is instead drawn to the affections of Leslie’s gorgeous childhood friend Morgan (Paula Patton), who has her sights set on being an NBA trophy wife.
Is Leslie destined to play the role of “best friend” forever or will Scott finally see that what he always wanted is right in front of him?

I really like Queen Latifah, and this is right up her alley. This will at least get rented by me, but maybe bought right afterwards.

Letters to Juliet

When Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), a young American, travels to Verona, Italy—the romantic city where Romeo first met Juliet—she meets a group of volunteers who respond to letters written to Juliet seeking romantic advice. Sophie finds and answers a letter that has been lost for 50 years, and is stunned when its author Claire (Vanessa Redgrave) arrives in Italy with her handsome but overprotective grandson (Christopher Egan) to find the fiance she left decades before.
Fascinated by Claire’s quest, Sophie joins them on an adventure through the beautiful hills of Tuscany searching for Claire’s long lost Lorenzo. The journey will change their lives forever, as they discover it’s never too late to find true love.

This sat a little too deep in the chick flick barrel for me to reach it, and it likely wont even get rented. Besides, the whole movie appears to be in the trailer.

Se7en

A film about two homicide detectives’ desperate hunt for a serial killer who justifies his crimes as absolution for the world’s ignorance of the Seven Deadly Sins. The movie takes us from the tortured remains of one victim to the next as the sociopathic “John Doe” sermonizes to Detectives Sommerset and Mills — one sin at a time. The sin of Gluttony comes first and the murderer’s terrible capacity is graphically demonstrated in the dark and subdued tones characteristic of film noir. The seasoned and cultured Sommerset researches the Seven Deadly Sins in an effort to understand the killer’s modus operandi while green Detective Mills scoffs at his efforts to get inside the mind of a killer.

Very likely going to grace my shelves this week! Can’t pass this up.

So what’s making your “must have” list this week?

I bought the Criterion release of Breathless on Blu Ray. This month, is all criterion purchases. Next week you’ve got Charade on blu ray too. Also, the last week is their release of The Thin Red Line and Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence. I’ll also be picking up The Killer Inside Me at the end of the month too.
